Field Trip at Hungry Mother State Park

Do you know a student who could benefit from some recognition or maybe an extra opportunity? Do you know someone who deserves to be recognized for their contributions? Maybe one of these awards or contests would be of interest to you or someone you know.

Watershed Connections, Wilkinson and Compton, Teacher of the Year Award for the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts

Each year, the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts recognizes outstanding conservation education efforts by an elementary (kindergarten -5th grade) and a secondary (6th-12th grade) teacher with the VASWCD Teacher Award. All teachers in public, parochial and private schools in Virginia are eligible to participate in the program. State winners will be recognized at the VASWCD Annual Meeting. First Place Teacher in each category receives a plaque and $250. Each SWCD may send one nominee in each category (K-5th, 6th-12th). Deadline is early September. Learn more.

Youth Conservation Leadership Institute

The Youth Conservation Leadership Institute (YCLI) is a recognition program for students in 9th-12th grade that focuses on volunteer service and environmental stewardship. YCLI offers self-motivated and enthusiastic high school students interested in environmental conservation and stewardship an opportunity to build leadership skills and connect with local mentors involved with environmental issues. Virginia Naturally School Recognition Program

The Virginia Naturally School Recognition Program recognizes the efforts of many Virginia schools to increase the environmental literacy of our youngest citizens. Learn more.

Virginia Dominion Energy Envirothon

The Virginia Dominion Energy Envirothon is a team-based natural resources competition for high school students. Students who participate learn stewardship and management concepts and work to solve real-world environmental problems. The program is field-oriented, community-based and gives students an opportunity to work with natural resource professionals. Learn more.

The Virginia Environmental Film Contest

Put your video talents to work for the environment in the Best Youth Submission category (18 and under) of this competition. Learn more.

Camp Woods and Wildlife

The Virginia Department of Forestry host Camp Woods and Wildlife each year. This is an academic, structured, residential camp for students 13-15 with a focus on learning management of forest resources. Campers are selected based on non-family recommendations. Learn more.

Inflation Reduction Act Community Change Grants Program

EPA’s new Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants program (Community Change Grants) has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for approximately $2 billion dollars in Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funds in environmental and climate justice activities to benefit disadvantaged communities through projects that reduce pollution, increase community climate resilience, and build community capacity to address environmental and climate justice challenges.
