Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. | Description: |
A $500,000 grant was awarded to the Civil War Trust to assist in the purchase of 134 acres, known as 'Lick Run,' of core battlefield at Chancellorsville in Spotsylvania County. Listed as a Priority I.2 Class A Battlefield by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission, the land had been purchased for residential development. The Civil War Trust plans to open the property for public visitation, and to install a series of interpretive trails and signage.
