VLCF Funded Projects

Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Name: Jamestown Campground and Yacht Basin
Category: Open Spaces and Parks
Grant Round: FY06
Acres: 112
Locality: James City County
Management Agency: James City County
Owner: Local
ConserveVirginia: None
Amount Awarded: $750,000.00
Applicant: James City County
Latitude: 37.24173427
Longitude: -76.752201
Description:

A $750,000 grant was awarded to James City County Development Management to assist in the purchase of the 112-acre Jamestown Campground. This waterfront property surrounds the historic and cultural resources at Historic Jamestowne on Jamestown Island and the Jamestown Settlement. It was the last group of privately owned undeveloped parcels in the Jamestown area. Note that portions of the project area outside of the grant area may or may not remain under direct county ownership and control; they may be leased or sold with tight deed restrictions or leased with strict terms and conditions to ensure the properties remain in recreational, open space or other compatible uses. The VLCF Grant was matched with $6,000,000 ($3,000,000 cash, $3,000,000 anticipated NOAA CECLP).
