Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. City of Salem Planning Department was awarded $33,825 for fee simple acquisition of 8.78 acres in the City of Salem for lands and right-of-way needed for completion of the portion of the Roanoke River Greenway between Rotary Park and the city line. Trail construction for this portion of the trail is funded by a Transportation Enhancement grant of $688,000.
