VLCF Funded Projects

Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Description:

DCR-DNH was awarded a VLCF grant of $449,650 to help acquire this 33-acre tract adjacent to the Pigg River and Bald Knob Natural Area Preserve. Plans are for DCR-DNH in partnership with the Town of Rocky Mount to develop the property for nature-based outdoor recreation, with a small parking area and walking trail through grassland and forest. In addition to recreation, the purchase of the property ensures the scenic integrity of the Pigg River, a potential Scenic River, and the designated Pigg River Water Trail.
