VLCF Funded Projects
Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. | Description: |
VLCF provided a grant of $500,000 to assist Capital Region Land Conservancy (CRLC), in partnership with The Conservation Fund and City of Richmond, to acquire and conserve 4.33 acres of river front property along Dock Street and the James River. The site was the only remaining privately-owned parcel along the north bank of the tidal James River in the city. Ownership of the tract protects the viewshed of Libby Hill Park. The property allows for extension of the Virginia Capital Trail and expands city-owned parkland by incorporating the property into the city’s James River Park System. DCR co-holds an open-space easement with CRLC that protects the conservation values of the property.
