Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

| Description: | The American Battlefield Trust is preserving the 52-acre Fussell’s Mill Tracts, located in Henrico County, via a fee acquisition and open-space easement held by the Virginia Board of Historic Resources. The tracts are in the Core and Study Areas as defined by the 1993 Civil War Sites Advisory Commission Report on the Nation’s Civil War Battlefields of the Second Deep Bottom, First Deep Bottom, Glendale, and Fair Oaks & Darbytown Road Battlefields. Two of those battlefields are documented United States Colored Troops (U.S.C.T.) sites, an important facet of African American history. The property includes 106 feet of Bailey Creek, 0.23 acres of pond, 575 feet along the pond’s edge, 48 acres of woods, and 0.86 acres of wetlands. The property is mostly open space, with one single-family residence, swimming pool, deck, and storage structures. |
