VLCF Funded Projects

Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Name: Stoner-Keller

Grant Round: FY21 Round 1
Acres: 120.27
Locality: Shenandoah County
Management Agency: Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation
Owner: Private
ConserveVirginia: Cultural & Historic Preservation, Water Quality Improvement
Amount Awarded: $242,170.00
Applicant: Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation
Latitude: 38.984697

Description:

Grant funds were awarded to Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation (SVBF) to place an easement over the 120-acre Stoner-Keller property in Shenandoah County, which is entirely within the core of the Fisher’s Hill Battlefield and the study area of the Cedar Creek Battlefield. Fishers Hill, including land that is part of this project, was used as a Confederate defensive position multiple times throughout the Civil War. The Stoner-Keller property will connect with 383 acres of neighboring conserved land. The easement will allow for a trail to connect these lands and further enhance the visitor experience.
