Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. | Description: | The Town of Blacksburg was able to acquire and protect 204-acres of richly biodiverse forest habitat used as a recreational resource in Montgomery County. The property represents a priority viewshed along the southeastern face of Brush Mountain. The property will be integrated into the Brush Mountain Park system serving as a bridge between the Poverty Creek Trail System in the Jefferson National Forest, and ultimately to the Huckleberry Trail. Partnerships among the town, New River Land Trust and a diverse set of community stakeholders allowed for the conservation of the property and ensure the long-term success of the project. |
