Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. | Description: | The Campbell County Training School Complex (CCTSC) Restoration Project (a Historic Rosenwald School) is located in Rustburg (Campbell County). VLCF funding was provided to help protect this historic nine-acre property with an easement, held by the Board of Historic Resources. The complex consists of four original one-story buildings listed on Virginia and the National Historic Registries, including the original two-room classroom building. A larger community effort is in place to restore and develop the CCTSC property. Efforts include structure restoration, as well as development of outside spaces to encourage outdoor recreational activities, community gatherings, walking trails, outdoor classes, archaeological digs and more. This project was withdrawn. |
