Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. | Description: | The American Battlefield Trust seeks to preserve the twelve-acre Carter Tract in Henrico County via fee acquisition and the recordation of a historic preservation and open-space easement to be held by the Virginia Board of Historic Resources. The Carter Tract is located entirely within the Core Area of the Seven Pines Battlefield. The tract is improved with a residence that was present at the time of the battle, a lofted barn, and several small outbuildings. The property is partially wooded with 4.55 acres of trees and includes 95 feet of frontage on an unnamed intermittent stream bed. The Trust intends to demolish the non-historic structures (if required by DHR) and offer periodic tours. Eventually, the Trust proposes to transfer the tract to a conservation buyer or a local entity for public use as a pocket park. |
