VLCF Funded Projects

Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. The interactive map below depicts VLCF-grant projects funded since 2000.

Daily public access will be provided for land-based and water-based recreation, wildlife viewing, and education and research opportunities in a unique landscape along the North Landing River, a designated Virginia Scenic River. The property is within the North Landing River Oakum Creek Natural Area, as identified by DCR Natural Heritage. Additionally, the property is within an important ecological core and wildlife corridor that connects the North Landing River to the Atlantic Coast. From the site, there are over 220-degree views of the North Landing River, and viewsheds of cypress coves and cordgrass hummocks with native marsh plants that contribute to the rare “wind-tidal marsh”. The property is virtually surrounded by water, with over 1,600’ of walkable North Landing River shoreline, and frontage along North Landing River marsh, Oakum Creek, and a canal used for boat access.
