Virginia’s working farms and forests, battlefields and other historic sites, natural areas, parks and rivers are critical to its economy, culture and quality of life. In 1999, the assembly and governor established the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF) to fund protection of these resources. | Description: | Stafford County was awarded funding for the placement of a conservation easement on the William Long Farm under the County Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) Program. The property totals 69.25 acres and the primary land use is forested. The easement will protect soils of statewide importance; 60 acres of mixed forestland; environmental features, including 4,950 linear feet of forested perennial streams, 4.1 acres of wetlands, and 100-year floodplain; and important wildlife habitat. The property falls within an Ecological Core and has predictive suitable habitat for Threatened and Endangered species and DWR Species of Greatest Conservation Need and is located within a wildlife biodiversity resilience corridor in DWR's Wildlife Corridor Action Plan. The farm is adjacent to other conserved lands under easement with Stafford County through the County PDR Program. The property is located along Bethel Church Road, a rural public road, providing visual access to the traveling public. |
