The public is entitled to efficient, fair and impartial service. The Department of Conservation and Recreation takes people's concerns seriously. We investigate all allegations of Public Safety and Law Enforcement Staff employee misconduct. We respond to inquiries about employee actions or the division policy. If you have a complaint, you may report it to us in person, by letter or by using the agency complaint form. You can also use the link at the bottom of the page.

*If you have a complaint regarding a non-law enforcement employee or non-law enforcement issue of the Department of Conservation and Recreation, please call 804-786-6124.

The Public Safety and Law Enforcement Staff values the feedback it receives from the community and visitors. It is dedicated to providing the highest quality law enforcement service possible to all our employees, guests and stakeholders. Our Law Enforcement Rangers are carefully selected and given the most comprehensive training. Information provided by citizens like you helps us with our mission.

If you choose to make a complaint we will follow a formal process to ensure your complaint is investigated. The agency will conduct a thorough investigation, including interviewing the employee involved and any witnesses. The investigator may contact you for additional details or to clarify the information you have already provided. If it becomes necessary for you to contact the investigator, you may do so by calling them directly or by calling the Office of the Chief. Usually, the investigation will be completed within 45 days of receiving the complaint. Upon conclusion of the investigation, you will receive correspondence from the Office of the Chief notifying you that the investigation is complete. However, in accordance with the law and out of respect for employees' privacy, we do not release the final disposition of the complaint. In addition, we do not release what specific discipline, if any, was imposed on the employee.

When submitting a complaint, we ask for your name, address, telephone number where we can reach you and the details of your complaint, including date, time, location and name or description of the involved employee(s). You can submit pictures, images or other attachments. Anonymous complaints shall be followed up to the extent possible.
