If you like woodpeckers, this is the park for you. Few days pass without sightings of up to five species of woodpeckers.

Type of birds

Warblers are common in spring and fall. You'll often find the northern flicker; pileated, downy, hairy and red-belled woodpeckers; and yellow-bellied sapsuckers. One occasionally in spring spots a bald eagle, and the park has plenty of resident ducks and geese... and crows and vultures, of course.

Special birding programs and events

The park offers bird hikes and lectures on hummingbirds, crows, owls, etc. Evening prowls and bird-specific kayaking and canoeing programs are offered as well.
