June 7, 2025. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Explore Occoneechee State Park and be a trail steward for a day. You can be a part of the team that protects Virginia's trails by picking a trail to pick up trash and report on the condition of the trail. Sign up as an individual or as a team to walk a trail or a portion of one of our longer trails by coming to the Posseclay Interpretive Shelter. You will be given a map and a trail checklist that you will turn in when you are done. Volunteers are an essential element for maintaining the park's trails. You'll be doing important work for the park while enjoying a hike, run, bike, or horse ride.
About National Trails Day
On the first Saturday of June, Virginia State Parks celebrates National Trails Day, an annual event encouraging outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels to explore hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Virginia’s 43 state parks offer guided hikes, trail maintenance workshops and volunteer opportunities to highlight trail stewardship and the importance of preserving trails for future generations.
