What's in the water at Piney Run?
Where
Sweet Run State Park, 11661 Harpers Ferry Road, Hillsboro, VA 20132.
Old Bridge Trail at Piney Run
When
June 7, 2025. 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
We invite you to watch and participate in testing the water on Piney Run for this Clean the Bay Day. We will test for different contaminants using a simple test kit. Discover how much dissolved oxygen is in the water and why it matters. As we test the water, we will explain why each test is important, where the contaminants may come from, and how we can keep the water clean as it flows to the Chesapeake Bay. Bring a change of shoes as you may get a little wet. This trail is relatively steep, with exposed rocks and roots. We will be on the water's edge, so it will be important to watch younger kids at all times. Meet at the Old Bridge off of Farmstead Trail.
About Clean the Bay Day
Every June, Virginia State Parks participates in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Clean the Bay Day, an event dedicated to protecting and preserving the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Park visitors are invited to join a clean-up to help remove litter, debris and pollution from rivers, streams and shorelines that feed into the Bay, contributing to the health of the Bay’s ecosystem and ensuring cleaner water and safer habitats for wildlife.
