History Tour of Natural Bridge

Join a ranger as you unravel the many mysteries of the Natural Bridge. How it was formed, who first discovered it, how it turned into a resort and later a state park will all be revealed as you walk along Cedar Creek trail with a ranger as your guide.

Learn about little-known figures with big impacts on the park such as our first ranger, Patrick Henry, and Civil War veteran and poet Colonel Henry C. Parsons who created the first resort complex on the property. After the tour, you can chat with a ranger in Base Camp as they pull out items from the park's artifact collection to celebrate Virginia State Parks History & Culture Day. 

Pre-registration for each tour is encouraged because space is limited. Meet at the park visitor center to check in for your tour. Please arrive early to process payment of $9 for adults and $6 for children; payment covers entry to the park for the rest of the day. To register, please follow this link: CLICK HERE.

On June 15, 1936, Virginia became the first state to open an entire park system of six parks on the same day. To celebrate this significant anniversary, Virginia State Parks hosts History and Culture Day every year on June 15, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the stories that make our parks special while enjoying the scenic beauty of its natural landscapes. From cultural demonstrations and reenactments to ranger-led kayaking tours and guided nature walks, History and Culture Day offers special programs for visitors of all ages.
