When
June 20, 2025. 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Warm summer nights combined with the lush, blooming grasslands at Powhatan State Park make the perfect stage for dancing fireflies! Join us at 7:30 p.m. for a glowing bug craft, then around 8 p.m. we'll learn about their amazing adaptations from a Virginia Master Naturalist followed by a ranger-led hayride alongside the rolling hills and wide-open meadows to watch their famous display.
Many people from the eastern United States have wonderful memories of these seemingly magical twinkling bugs. Unfortunately, fireflies (which are not flies, but actually beetles) face many environmental threats. You are invited to not only marvel at their beauty but learn how we can protect them for future generations to admire.
Register here to let us know you're coming. We will contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
