When

Aug. 2, 2025. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Come experience the beautiful James River on this guided kayak tour with DCR's Bay Experience team! The trip includes a brief overview of paddling safety and techniques, as well as on-the-water interpretations of natural and cultural features. Conditions permitting, the tour will start at Launch A and end at Maidens Landing. Length of time on the water is dependent on the flow of the river. Plan to be on the water for 2-3 hours in a sit-on-top kayak. Children must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by an adult.

It is physically challenging to get in and out of the boats, especially for those with balance issues. Contact us at powhatan@dcr.virginia.gov if you have concerns, and we will try our best to accommodate you. Space is limited to 10 people.

Participant Expectations:
- Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and snacks.
- Plan to get wet!
- Wear closed-toe shoes that you can step into the river with.

Registration Required
- Visit or call the Park Office at (804) 598-7148 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily.
- $20 per participant; payment is required in order to make a reservation.

In the event that this program is cancelled due to weather, park staff will contact you to issue a full refund.
