Explore amazing insects, discover the world of rocks and minerals, learn about a remarkable tree and how you can help bring it back from the brink of extinction, and get up close and personal with some of our reptile friends.

Jr. Ranger Camp is open only to children who are ages 7-12 years old as of June 23, 2025. Camp runs Monday, June 23 through Thursday, June 26, from 1:30-4:00 p.m. each day. Children who complete the full camp (10 hours of programming) will graduate as a Jr. Ranger and receive a certificate and Jr. Ranger badge. Graduation is Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 4:00-4:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is required. Registration opens June 2, 2025, and closes on June 18, 2025. Request a registration form by emailing to jeanette.lawler@dcr.virginia.gov, or you may call 540-297-5998 for more information. Space is limited to 12 participants. Registrations need to be returned no later than June 20, 2025. You will be notified with more details when the registration is confirmed.

This Jr. Ranger Camp is being offered, free of charge to participants, thanks to the generous support of the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park.
