Girl Scouts Love State Parks Day

Location of Southwest Virginia Museum in Virginia

Where

Southwest Virginia Museum, 10 West First St. N., Big Stone Gap, VA 24219.
Museum Front Lawn

When

Sept. 13, 2025. 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Girl Scouts are invited to the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park to complete an exciting challenge, which will allow them to apply their skills in concepts such as Leave No Trace, Bear Aware and Know Before You Go. The goal is to navigate through the park to reach their assigned campsite and set up camp. Park staff will gather with participants at 1pm on the museum’s front lawn to engage with the Girl Scouts, covering essential skills and providing each scout with a map detailing various routes to their destination. Scouts will need to utilize their map-reading abilities and the seven Leave No Trace principles to determine the most effective path to follow to reach their destination, where rangers will assist with setting up camp.

This activity is open to Girl Scouts of all ages, but registration is required. To register your girl scout or your troop, please call the Southwest Virginia Museum at (276) 523-1322 or email swvamuseum@dcr.virginia.gov by 4:00 PM on September 12th.
