Ever wondered how the cabins you stay in and the shelters you enjoy were built without modern technology? Join us in celebrating 89 years of this Virginia treasure and the lasting legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

A park ranger will share the rich history of Douthat, highlighting the CCC’s role in shaping the park. Watch as the ranger demonstrates the traditional tools used to build the park’s iconic cabins and shelters, from making wooden shakes for roofing to hewing logs by hand to create strong, lasting foundations.

This program offers a fascinating look into the craftsmanship and hard work that went into creating Douthat’s stunning structures and landscape. Discover how the CCC’s efforts continue to define the park’s beauty today and celebrate their legacy in this engaging, hands-on demonstration.
