Ten new Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation law enforcement rangers were sworn in on June 2 at Natural Bridge State Park. While many public safety and law enforcement agencies hold swear-in events at their respective facilities, the Virginia State Parks public safety & law enforcement staff chose to locate their ceremony at Natural Bridge State Park.
“For us, this event is more than just an opportunity for law enforcement rangers to take their oaths,” explained Chief of Public Safety and Law Enforcement Scott Vantrease. “Holding the celebration here in a park reminds all of our staff who we are and why we undertake our responsibilities. The ceremony becomes a lasting reminder to each new law enforcement ranger of our mission of Preserving the Past - Protecting the Future for generations to come,” he concluded.
After Chief Vantrease welcomed participants and guests, they heard remarks from Virginia State Parks Director Melissa Baker; Frank Stovall, Deputy Director – Operations, Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR); and DCR Director Matthew Wells.
The oath of office was administered by the Hon. Michelle M. Trout, Rockbridge County Clerk of Circuit Court. Swearing in to their new roles were:
