DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.

Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.

Administrative and Office Specialist I

State Parks - Belle Isle State Park

Hourly Rate: $12.00 per hour

Belle Isle State Park is seeking multiple self-motivated, organized, and customer service-oriented individuals for a part-time Contact Ranger position. These individuals will rotate between staffing the park’s Visitor Center, Camp Store, and Contact Station. Successful candidates must be able to provide optimal customer service with a friendly, professional, and courteous attitude. Duties include providing detailed information to park guests about state park services and rules, directions to park points of interest, trail information, interpretive program information, and information about the local area; collecting applicable parking fees; registering overnight guests; operating a cash register; completing daily cash management reports, adhering to state cash management policies; assisting the park office with needed administrative tasks as assigned; and assisting with special events in various areas of the park as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience providing the highest standard of customer service with the public and coworkers.
  • Ability to memorize and recall information, perform basic math skills, and operate a computer and cash register.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience with cash handling and operating a cash register in a customer service, office, and/or retail setting.

Special Requirements:

Must be at least 16 years old, possess a valid Driver's License and have reliable transportation. 

We provide on the job training. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule which includes, weekends, holidays, and evenings. Must wear uniform consistent with park standards, shirt and hat will be provided. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurrent basis. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service.

There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30.

Selected candidate(s) will need to complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.

DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:

Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.

Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights.  All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
