Hourly rate: $16.00 to $18.00 per hour (corrected salary, please disregard previous amounts)

Natural Bridge State Park is looking for self-motivated and outgoing individual to provide information about the park, its amenities, and local area information.

Provides office support services to staff members.  Provides coverage at the park’s Contact Station, Visitor Center, and Park Office. Assists with the park merchandise program.  Collects appropriate fees and assists visitors to ensure all information is obtained in an orderly manner.  Will operate a computer, cash register, fax machine, laminator, handheld radio & multi-line phone system in the performance of assigned duties. Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones, copying, and typing correspondence. 

Will manage parking operations including providing accurate and detailed information on the park's procedures/information, park fees, including amenities throughout the park. Stays informed of park interpretive programs and local area attractions so that can provide information to visitors.  Works independently in preparing information for the next shift.  Communicates well both verbally and in writing.  Will reconcile a till and note any discrepancies in a detailed manner as park of the opening and closing routines of the park. May assist with food service preparation and other duties, including special events and interpretive programs.

 
Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Experience operating a computer and cash register.
  • Must be able to count money, perform daily register transactions, reconcile registers, and complete daily cash management paperwork.
  • Demonstrated previous experience in customer service and/or public relations environment, excellent communications skills, and ability to work in a team environment. 
  • Considerable knowledge and skills with a variety of computer-based business applications (such as Microsoft Office software) and a variety of office equipment.
  • Experience in lead or supervisory role. 
  • Must be able to work independently
  • General housekeeping of park facilities and cleaning of workspace and front office is required. 
  • Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in park work or a related field is desirable.
  • General knowledge of park operations required
  • Ability to give driving directions to park visitors.
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions and standing for long periods of time
  • A valid Virginia driver’s license. 
  • Must be wiling to work weekdays, weekends, and evenings. 

Special Requirements: 

This is a year-round, wage position, with limited hours December through February. Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

Employment in all positions within the Virginia State Parks is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check.  Selected candidate(s) will need to complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.

DCR provides the opportunity for wage employees to participate in tax deferred compensation programs, supplemental disability insurances, and supplemental retirement accounts made available through the Commonwealth’s provider network at the employee’s expense. As an employee of State Parks, you will also receive:

  • Free parking or admission to all Virginia State Parks.
  • DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
    • Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
    • Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
    • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights.  All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
