New River Trail State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger position.

Job Summary:

Maintenance Rangers perform routine maintenance throughout the Park.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Routine mowing, weed eating, trash pickup, trail work, equipment maintenance, light construction, and custodial tasks such as cleaning bathrooms and cabins as necessary.
Operate a variety of hand tools to include, but not limited to, hammers; hand saws; hand pruners; loppers; shovel; sledgehammer; pick; mattock and axes.
Operate power hand tools to include, but not limited to, a weed eater, pressure washer, blower, paint sprayer, circular saw; reciprocating saw; drills of various types.
Operating specialized equipment including UTVs, tractors, mowers, etc.
Perform routine maintenance on all equipment used.
Interact with the public, including answering questions and providing excellent customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted and work in outdoor conditions
Must be able to drive maintenance vehicles
Must be able to operate landscaping equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and tractors.
Have basic knowledge and ability to operate basic tools
Must be 18-year-old to apply
Requires a valid Driver’s license.

Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
