Seven Bends State Park is accepting applications for a Gift Shop Ranger position.
Job Summary:
Seeking a self-motivated and outgoing individual to assist management with park merchandise sales operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary duties include, but not limited to, responding to customer requests in-person, by phone or email; operating park's merchandise trailer on scheduled days.
- Providing excellent customer service;
- Processing and handling purchases;
- Reconciling revenue for cash registers;
- Preparing cash and credit revenue deposits;
- Conducting inventory counts;
- Insuring workspace and customer contact areas are neat, clean, and organized;
- Maintaining accurate and neat filing and storage;
- Returning correspondence by phone and email regarding park information;
- Performing general office administration duties as assigned.
- Serving as support staff for park leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to count money,
- Perform daily register transactions and reconcile register
- Complete daily cash management paperwork, manage stock inventory, and input data into respective software.
- Applicant must be able to work cooperatively with other staff and park guests in a team environment.
- Required to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Additional Considerations:
- Demonstrated ability to used Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher preferred, but not required.
- Prior experience in customer service, retail, park setting, or related field is preferred, but not required.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
