Widewater State Park is accepting applications for the Office Manager Assistant position.
Job Summary
We are seeking a self-motivated and organized individual who possesses great interpersonal skills to successfully assist park management with administrative functions and work harmoniously with the public, volunteers, co-workers, and supervisors. This position will provide customer service to park visitors in-person and via phone; maintain a process of planning for, tracking, and meeting deadlines in a timely manner; and utilize critical thinking skills to develop solutions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing information on Widewater’s facilities and programs, local points of interest and attractions as well as detailed information on reservation procedures, directions, pricing, and trail information.
- Accurately calculate change for park customers and balance revenues collected; operate electronic cash register; and collect user fees while maintaining required revenue accounting forms and reports.
- Monitoring the gift store sales floor and notating which items need to be reordered, restocked, and facing as needed, and maintaining sale signs and price tags on merchandise.
- Assisting with training new hire and returning seasonal staff in areas such as revenue collection, shift settlement, merchandise sales, and customer service.
- Overseeing revenue collection in Visitor Center and Contact Station.
- Managing the creation of schedules and communications with Contact Rangers.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate a point-of-sale terminal including recalling information and calculating basic math.
- Proficient computer skills including operating, troubleshooting basic computer systems as well as typing and copying documents.
Additional Considerations
- Experience working in an office setting or retail.
- Experience training, leading, or supervising others.
Special Instructions
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
