Virginia State Parks Headquarters is accepting applications for a Customer Service Program Assistant position.
Job Summary:
The Virginia State Parks Office of Visitor Services is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Administrative Assistant to provide support in the implementation of administrative functions for the Visitor Services section, and Virginia State Parks visitors This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the smooth operation of our visitor self-led Outdoor Adventure series, our employee recognition program and enhance the overall experience of visitors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the database and inventory of supplies and prizes required for state parks outdoor adventure programs.
- Coordinate effectively with park staff regarding outdoor adventure program logistics and needs.
- Coordinate the participation award presentation process between customer and park locations.
- Review on-line visitor surveys, identify key trends and concerns and escalate issues appropriately.
- Maintain an internal database of staff customer service recognitions,ensure it is kept up to date and awards are processed timely.
- Perform other administrative duties as required to support the Visitor Services section.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license
- Basic knowledge of computer operation and Microsoft Office 365 software including Word, Excel, Forms, PowerPoint and Teams - plus Outlook, Calendars and OneDrive applications
- Good writing and verbal communication skills
- Good organizational skills
- Capable of working independently and as a team member
Additional Considerations:
- Prior experience working in an office setting.
- Experience with DCR-specific computer applications.
- General knowledge of park operations and/or outdoor activities.
Special Instructions
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
