Virginia announces fifth round of flood preparedness grants
$85 million now available to communities for flood preparedness projects

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation has announced the opening of the fifth grant round of the Community Flood Preparedness Fund.

Communities across Virginia are invited to apply for $85 million in grants and loans to address the effects of recurrent flooding, sea level rise and extreme weather. Applications are due by Nov. 9, 2024.

The fund enables localities across Virginia to plan for and increase their capacity to reduce the risk of flooding and implement mitigation projects.

Information about the fund, eligibility rules, application procedures and instructions are available in the fund’s grant manual, which is posted on the Community Flood Preparedness Fund website at www.dcr.virginia.gov/cfpf.

All CFPF Round 5 applications must be submitted through DCR’s WebGrants Portal. A training video showing prospective applicants how to use the portal is also posted on the CFPF website.

The Community Flood Preparedness Fund, established in 2020, continues to prioritize projects that are of community scale in concert with local, state and federal floodplain management standards, approved local resilience plans and the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan.

DCR, in cooperation with the Virginia Resources Authority, administers the fund and grant program. DCR oversees the state’s floodplain management, flood resilience planning and dam safety programs and assists communities with requirements related to the National Flood Insurance Program.
