The Atlantic hurricane season is June 1-Nov. 30. Flooding, not wind, is the major cause of damage from a hurricane.
Rainfall events during hurricanes and other storms can jeopardize the integrity of dams when they are not in safe condition or where there is insufficient spillway capacity to convey floodwaters.
